University of London Press launches new interactive online reading platform

Alongside the launch of a new website and branding, the University of London Press has also launched its very own instance of the digital scholarly publishing platform, Manifold. The platform allows the publication of networked, iterative, media-rich and interactive monographs that offers benefits for readers and authors alike.

For readers, its intuitive interface and functionality is designed to make the reading experience more interactive and collaborative. Tools such as annotation, highlighting, reading groups and multimedia resources improve and enhance a reader’s experience of the Press’s digital publishing outputs and enable a deeper engagement with the texts. For authors, the platform allows you to include material which can’t be reproduced in a print edition of your book and to link a multitude of materials to the text, such as images, videos, source material, maps, appendices, interview material, raw data, drafts and other research materials. In addition, the ability to share material, annotate and create reading groups and discussion groups opens up the possibility to use these enhanced editions in teaching in an easy and creative way.

The platform sits alongside the Press website and can be accessed freely via the option to ‘read online’ that currently appears on 42 of our open access titles. Below are links to a few books that are currently available to read via the platform.

Over the course of the rest of this year, we will be creating Manifold editions of our entire open access books catalogue, so that over 100 titles will offer readers the option to read online, annotate and highlight key excerpts, or engage in discussions over content and resources.

Over the next few years, we will also be publishing exciting new titles via the platform which make use of its functionality in innovative ways. Watch this space! More details are available here.
