Submit a proposal

Thank you for your interest in submitting a book proposal to the University of London Press. We publish distinctive, academically rigorous monographs, edited collections, short-form monographs (20,000–50,000 words) and other scholarly books across the humanities disciplines.

Submitting your book proposal

We are pleased to consider new book proposals across all major humanities disciplines and have a number of book series open to all. Authors do not have to be affiliated with the School of Advanced Study or the University of London to publish with us.

Please download our book proposal form. We also ask for one sample chapter to be submitted with the proposal. We would encourage you to get in touch with us first with a brief overview of your proposed book so we can consider whether it would fit our publishing programme before you prepare a full proposal. Please contact Emma Gallon, Publisher (emma.gallon@sas.ac.uk).

Next steps

We will confirm receipt of your proposal. It will then undergo an initial evaluation, in consultation with series editors and editorial advisory board members where relevant, to check that it fits with our publishing programme. We will contact you with the outcome of this initial evaluation. If we’re able to proceed with your proposal, we will advise you on the next steps, which may include requesting any additional material or recommending revisions to be made before it is sent for peer review. Find out more about the peer review process.

Proposals based on doctoral research

Although we don’t publish unrevised doctoral theses or dissertations, we do accept proposals for academic books with their origins in doctoral research. The following guidelines explain the difference between the two and provide advice on revising your thesis successfully for book publication.

New book series

If you are interested in proposing a new book series for consideration, please get in touch with Emma Gallon, Publisher (emma.gallon@sas.ac.uk) for an initial discussion about your idea.
