INTERNATIONAL OPEN ACCESS WEEK 2023 – Nearing a million downloads!

International Open Access week logo

As of our most recent update, our Open Access titles have been downloaded more than 984,873 times (you can read about how this data is captured on our Statistics page.) See any titles on our site that would be useful for your research? Download them for free and help us to surpass one million downloads!

As a predominantly open access publisher, we are committed to realising the benefits of open research for humanities disciplines and researchers. We currently collaborate with a number of partners on our open access publishing, including Jisc, JSTOR, and OAPEN, and our OA titles are available to access via these partners as well as from our own site. You can read more about our this on our Projects and initiatives page.

We are keen to participate in new funding pilot projects which seek to offer alternatives to the ‘Book Processing Charge’ model, particularly those which involve close collaboration directly with institutional libraries. We have had recent success in securing funding direct from library supporters through Jisc’s ‘Open Access Community Framework’ and with the Knowledge Unlatched scheme (see Projects and initiatives) which are helping us to strategically grow our publishing programme beyond our current financial limits.

Within the current OACF scheme, institutions can become supporter members of a diamond OA publishing initiative that will support us in publishing and promoting a number of open access human rights and social justice titles, without any author-facing fees. Libraries can pledge support until the end of the year. Visit their site for details on how to pledge.

Support the University of London Press

The Press is grateful to receive donations in support of our work in promoting the value and importance of humanities research, our experimental publishing models and our training programme.

Examples of what your support will enable:

  • Publishing additional open access titles in our book series
  • Helping us to make the open access books we publish discoverable and accessible globally and to non-academic audiences through enhanced marketing support
  • Our work as part of the new Open Institutional Publishing Association

We are happy to work with potential supporters to ensure that any donations are spent on specific activity which is a priority, where this is possible (for example, support for a particular book series).

If you would like to support us and make a donation, please email development@london.ac.uk.
