Want to understand your Open Access publishing options? Take our free Open Access online course

Launched last year, the School of Advanced Study’s RESHAPED platform hosts an online training course on open access publishing. We developed this course with the School of Advanced Study. The course is free and anyone can take it. The course is recommended for anyone looking to:
- Anticipate and handle open access challenges.
- Increase their familiarity with today’s open access publishing landscape and context, especially in the humanities.
- Understand the reasons for, and benefits of, open access publishing.
- Apply knowledge of the different types and models of open access for books and journals when considering publication options for their research.
- Comply with funders’, institutions’ and publishers’ open access policies and mandates.
The number of different routes to OA can be overwhelming, particularly for researchers looking to publish for the first time. This course has been developed as part of our unique remit to support humanities researchers to understand the changing landscape of academic publishing and open access, including our online training webinars on aspects of publishing. Our Training Hub features videos and resources on topics including open access, revising your PhD thesis for publication, peer review and overviews of book and journal publishing.
Publisher Emma Gallon says of the course:
‘You’ll gain extra confidence in navigating open access and considering your publishing options. You’ll be able to anticipate and handle some of the challenges that can arise with open access, and you’ll be able to learn how to meet institutions and funders and policy requirements. You’ll really come away with a greater understanding of the open access landscape, and be able to navigate your publishing options with much more confidence.’
