Free webinar on third-party materials in OA publishing

Event details

The University of London Press are organising a joint webinar with the Open Access Books Network on Tues 19th November on managing third-party materials for open access books. The ‘From permission to publication‘ webinar will take place at 13:30 to 15:00 (GMT).

This practical, solutions-focused webinar will feature a panel of speakers representing relevant different stakeholder perspectives on the topic, including an author, a publisher, a copyright expert and a representative from the GLAM (galleries, libraries, archives and museums) sector. They will share their experiences of the inclusion of third-party materials in open access books: the possibilities, pitfalls, strategies and solutions.

Speakers:

  • Professor Jan M. Ziolkowski – Arthur Kingsley Porter Professor of Medieval Latin, Harvard University
  • Dr Emma Gallon – Publisher, University of London Press
  • Professor Emily Hudson – Faculty of Law and the Queen’s College, University of Oxford
  • Dr Arran Rees – Towards a National Collection and the Museum Data Service

The speaker presentations will be followed by a breakout session, exploring the challenges (and successes) faced by attendees when obtaining permissions for third-party materials, and discussing what further support is needed to tackle this issue.

We hope the event will be useful for a wide range of stakeholders, particularly researchers, those working in a range of roles within scholarly communications, and fellow publishers.

We are particularly pleased to be organising this event with the OABN as part of our mission to support humanities researchers navigating a changing publishing landscape for books.

This event is now in the past but you can watch the recording.
